Now it's your turn
I’m six years into home educating my children. The time has flown by, and it’s been a wild ride. I feel like we are a completely different family. If you would have offered me this life back then, back when it felt like everything was falling apart, I’m not sure I’d have believed it was possible.
I’ve had many opportunities along the way to share our home education journey, yet I’ve shied away from really sharing my raw truth. I always believed that to share our story I’d have to share about my children, and I never felt entirely comfortable with that. Their stories are theirs to share. Then recently I became acutely aware that I have my own story to tell. A story that I hope will resonate and help other mothers who step bravely into the unknown, believe that there is strength in learning alongside your children.
What happens when you trust yourself as fiercely as you trust your instincts about your children?
Initially our decision to home educate was for our children. I had no idea how it would benefit my life or how I would have to completely rethink everything. Stepping outside of a social norm forces you to look deep within and ask the bigger questions.
Alongside is a space for the brave ones, the mothers who chose differently and embrace all the joy and chaos that brings.
Whether you have already chosen to home educate, have found yourself forced into this new family dynamic or are considering it, I hope this space will give you food for thought. I don’t have all the answers, thankfully no one does. What I can offer is a companion in the mess. Someone who’s discovering you can thrive alongside your children, not only after they’ve grown and flown.
Home educating my children has shown me that all the trust, love, autonomy and time we give our children is exactly what we need too.
Now it’s your turn.
